{"id":145,"date":"2014-01-28T16:55:54","date_gmt":"2014-01-28T16:55:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev1.cief.org\/?page_id=145"},"modified":"2019-06-29T16:55:14","modified_gmt":"2019-06-29T16:55:14","slug":"english","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/dev1.cief.org\/?page_id=145","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to the CI\u00c9F&rsquo;s website"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><em>Association founded in 1987<\/em><\/h4>\n<h3>Our Association<\/h3>\n<p>The \u00ab\u00a0Conseil International d\u2019\u00c9tudes Francophones\u00a0\u00bb (CI\u00c9F), or \u00ab\u00a0International Council of Francophone Studies\u00a0\u00bb is a non-profit association whose aim is to encourage interdisciplinary studies, research, and publications concerning all countries and regions of French expression. Anchored in North America where it was born, the CI\u00c9F is designed for those who belong to French-speaking communities as well as those who are interested in the Francophone world.<\/p>\n<h3>Our Membership<\/h3>\n<p>CI\u00c9F members are primarily teachers and scholars, but also writers and artists. Although the majority are located in the United States and Canada, the membership includes many representatives of Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Caribbean, and Latin America. To become a member please consult <a href=\"https:\/\/dev1.cief.org\/?page_id=75\"><strong>the membership page<\/strong><\/a> (in French only).<\/p>\n<h3>Our Convention<\/h3>\n<p>Each year the CI\u00c9F organizes a conference in a Francophone region of the world, bringing together 200-400 participants: scholars, critics, writers, and journalists from every Francophone country and region in the world. In addition to approximately one hundred interdisciplinary panels, the convention welcomes many Francophone writers (<a href=\"http:\/\/cief.org\/congres\/2004\/ecrivains.html\">37 at the 2004 convention in Li\u00e8ge<\/a>, for example) and organizes literary readings, meetings, and round tables with writers and artists. The convention also offers receptions sponsored by diplomatic delegations, local universities, and municipalities. Several excursions are organized during each convention. A local bookseller is also present at each convention, offering a large choice of publications in Francophone studies as well as books by authors who are present at the convention and books discussed during convention panels.<\/p>\n<p>The CI\u00c9F has held its convention various Francophone countries over the years. The 2019 convention will be held in Ottawa, Canada. For more details please consult <a href=\"https:\/\/dev1.cief.org\/?page_id=98\"><strong>the Congress page<\/strong><\/a> (in French only).<\/p>\n<h3>Our Affiliated Session at the MLA Convention<\/h3>\n<p>Please <a href=\"https:\/\/dev1.cief.org\/formsession-MLA\/index.php\">see the Call for Papers<\/a> for the CIEF affiliated session at the MLA convention.<\/p>\n<h3>Our Scholarly Journal<\/h3>\n<p>Twice a year the CI\u00c9F publishes a refereed journal, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dev1.cief.org\/?page_id=112\"><em>Nouvelles \u00c9tudes Francophones<\/em><\/a><\/strong> (<strong>NEF<\/strong>), formerly <em>\u00c9tudes Francophones<\/em>, which is distributed to current CI\u00c9F members as well as to libraries and academic associations throughout the world. <em>Nouvelles Etudes Francophones <\/em>is published and distributed by the University of Nebraska Press.<\/p>\n<h3>Our Conseil International d\u2019\u00c9tudes Francophones Award<\/h3>\n<p>At each convention the CI\u00c9F bestows the <a href=\"https:\/\/dev1.cief.org\/?page_id=101\"><strong>Conseil International d\u2019\u00c9tudes Francophones award<\/strong><\/a> (previously entitled the \u201cPrix Maurice Cagnon\u00a0\u00bb) in homage to Maurice Cagnon, the CI\u00c9F\u2019s founder in 1987. This award is given to one person, sometimes two people, for their exceptional contribution to the development of Francophone studies in the world. For more information on our yearly recipients, please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/dev1.cief.org\/?page_id=101\"><strong>Award webpage<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Our Young Scholar Award<\/h3>\n<p>In order to encourage and help young scholars pursue their research in Francophone studies, an award in the amount of US $\u00a0600 is given for the best doctoral student paper at each convention. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/dev1.cief.org\/?page_id=103\">Young Scholar\u00a0page<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n<h3>Our Electronic Newsletter<\/h3>\n<p>Twice a month (except during summer break in July and August), the CI\u00c9F sends out an electronic newsletter to all members through its distribution list. This newsletter contains news from CI\u00c9F members, publication announcements, calls for papers or articles.
